Prediabetes Statistics

A startling statistic. Luckily help is on the way. The Malden YMCA is excited to announce that we will be joining other Y's across the country in delivering the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program. This evidence-based program is already garnering much praise from the likes of the CDC to various media outlets for one reason - IT WORKS.

To find out if you are at risk and if you qualify for the program, please take this brief quiz and get in touch with our Director of Health Living about your results or if you have any questions.

Did you know that 75% of non-swimmer drownings occur in shallow water? And also 75% of non-swimmer drownings are children under the age of 8? To ensure the safety of swimmers and non-swimmers in our pools at the Malden YMCA we will be focusing on the prevention of incidents, with our new Test Mark Protect policy.

This policy will be going into effect on Monday June 23rd 2014 for all Open Swim, Camp Swim, School Age Child Care Swim and Pool Parties at our facility.

All children under 14 will need to retrieve a Colored Neck Band from the Aquatics Supervisor before entering the pools. For a full description of the policy and what each Colored Neck Band represents, click the image below.

**UPDATE** The policy has been adjusted slightly as of the evening of June 23rd, so please review. Thank you.
